Travertine Cleaning
Travertine, regardless of surface type, honed, tumbled or polished can be cleaned. The question is how long will it last? If a travertine floor is only a few years old and has been cared for it may be professionally cleaned quite successfully. A travertine surface will wear over time with exposure to abrasion from traffic and maintenance. After only a few years the surface of a travertine floor, even one that is well cared for will begin to develop a rough surface. At a microscopic level, the surface is pitting as dirt, sand and debris are swept across and ground in with foot traffic. As the travertine surface becomes more pitted, these pits become cavities that hold dirt and grime. Although we can clean this surface completely and remove all the dirt, unless you machine hone or polish to restore the flat, smooth surface, dirt will return very quickly.
